Solid Silver Imprinting FAQs

What is silver clay?
Art Clay Silver 650 Slow Dry consists of: - 92% silver powder, 8% non-toxic organic binder and water. The harmless binding agent is made from pulp fibre and a moisturising agent. It has been developed to fire at 650°C/1200°F (ie temperature of a gas hob).

How does it work?
During firing the silver particles solidify, the binder and moisturiser burn off and the water evaporates; this causes the pendant to shrink by 8-9%.

Is it really solid Silver?
After firing the resulting pendant is 99.9% Pure Silver, which can be hallmarked. (This can be compared to Sterling Silver which is only 92.5% pure and mixed with other metals. Sterling Silver also tarnishes more quickly than Pure Silver).

How do I keep it clean?
Initially it will be enough to use the polishing cloth provided; it is impregnated with silver cleaner and anti-tarnish agent. To stop the build up of dirt and dust clean your silver jewellery in warm soapy water, rinse, dry well, and polish with the cloth provided.
To remove tarnish, coat the silver with toothpaste, add a little warm water and work the paste into a foam. Clean the fingerprint area using an old soft-bristled toothbrush. Then rinse the piece in warm water, dry well and polish with the cloth provided.
